Postural Alignment
Structural Integration is a technique that slowly but profoundly changes the tissue to re-organize your spine. Throughout the course of our lives we experience an accumulation of injuries both minor and significant which create chronic stiffness in our fascia. This can lead to discomfort or fatigue in the back, hips, shoulders, hands or feet. Imagine small pulls in a sweater which start small but over time create a warped line of pull that affects the entire garment. Small repetitive injuries have the potential to affect the entire system.
I work to re-organize and realign the tissue. This is done over the course of 10 sessions, working from superficial to deep layers of the myo-fascia. The end product is a balanced body which functions through the core.
The 10 series
Sessions 1-3 “Superficial Fascia”
These sessions focus on releasing the outer fascia layer. This is the part of the body responsible for our fast movements. You can imagine this layer as the wet-suit just under the skin. The goal of 1-3 is to open, lengthen and organize these layers. This will create space for deeper layers to unwind.
Sessions 4-7 “The Core”
These are the deep sessions targeting the inner fascia layers. These layers are responsible for slow, postural movements. This is when areas like the inner thigh, pelvic floor and jaw are addressed.
Sessions 8-10 “Integration and Connection”
The first 7 sessions are about taking the body apart to ensure differentiation among muscles. Sessions 8-10 are about putting the individual parts back together into a better functioning whole. You will begin to experience motion initiated by the core and relaxing into balanced posture.
Benefits of the work
Increase flexibility and ease of movement. Increase energy. Improve balance. Release chronic pain, tension and stress. Enhance physical performance. Improve posture. Improve athletic performance. Enhance body awareness. Reduce effort in activity. Increase muscle potential
These benefits occur through the FASCIA. This is the webbing that surrounds and supports all of the muscles, bones and organs in your body. Fascia is the body’s internal system of support - giving it strength and shape.
